Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Get Out, The Post and The West Wing alum Bradley Whitford has signed up for a recurring role on Hulu's drama The Handmaid's Tale for Season 2.

The Emmy-winner will play Commander Joseph Lawrence, the architect of the economy of the dystopian society Gilead, Deadline.com said.

TVGuide.com quoted the streaming service as saying Whitford's character's "sly humor and flashes of kindness make him a confusing, mysterious presence for his newest handmaid."

It is also possible Lawrence will be the husband of the woman played by series newcomer Marisa Tomei since series writer Bruce Miller recently revealed Tomei will portray the wife of a commander.

The show stars Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle and Amanda Brugel.
