Feb. 7 (UPI) -- It was friend versus friend Tuesday on Smackdown Live as Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn competed against each other to determine who will face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at Fastlane.

Owens and Zayn, who have dominated Smackdown as a team but had a falling out last week, started out the main event cautiously before things picked up.

Zayn gained momentum in the bout by delivering two Tornado DDTs and by blocking a top-rope attack by Owens before the battle spilled out near the announcer's table where Styles was delivering guest commentary.

Zayn pushed Styles' buttons by getting in his face and taunting him before The Phenomenal One lost his cool and began attacking both Zayn and Owens which led to the match ending in a disqualification.

After further punishment from an enraged Styles, Smackdown general manager Daniel Bryan came out to announce that Styles would now be defending his WWE Championship against both men in a Triple Threat Match. Fastlane is Smackdown's last stop before WrestleMania and takes place March 11.

Also on Smackdown Live, Rusev took on Bobby Roode for the United States Championship after The Bulgarian Brute won a Fatal 4-Way last week to make him the No. 1 contender.

Rusev received help from his partner Aiden English on the outside during the bout which allowed him to strike The Glorious One with a kick to the head for a close two count. Roode was also nearly put into Rusev's signature Accolade submission before he was able to escape and deliver a Glorious DDT for the win.

As Roode celebrated his victory in the ring under a spotlight, Randy Orton came out of nowhere and delivered an RKO to the United States Champion. The Viper then also unleashed RKOs onto Rusev and English.

Other moments from Smackdown Live included Charlotte Flair defeating Liv Morgan; The Bludgeon Brothers defeating local competitors; and Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable defeating The Ascension.
