Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Shannen Doherty hopes the Charmed reboot will "respect" the original show.

The 46-year-old actress weighed in on the new series on Twitter after former co-star Holly Marie Combs slammed The CW project.

"I hope they respect the original and listen to you all and make a show that's inspired by charmed that focuses on what's important in life," she wrote in response to fan questions and comments about the reboot.

Doherty said she was "intrigued" by the reboot's potential to comfort and inspire a new generation of viewers, in addition to the show providing "more great roles for women."

"Im intrigued by the idea that a new generation might be comforted, inspired like all you were. Charmed helped us all in some way," the star wrote.

"I love charmed. I also want it to be respected. I'm simply choosing to be constructive about it because negativity has no place in my life," she added.

Doherty was largely optimistic, although she took issue with The CW describing the show as a "feminist reboot of the original series."

"Their wording is terrible and a bit offensive. But, everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps with the backlash they will be more thoughtful in the future," she wrote.

The original Charmed starred Doherty, Combs, Alyssa Milano as sisters Prue, Piper and Phoebe Halliwell, with Rose McGowan later joining the series as the trio's half-sister, Paige Matthews. Combs criticized the reboot in a tweet last week.

"Here's the thing. Unless you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don't even think of capitalizing on our hard work," the actress wrote. "Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominately the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye."
