Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Nina Dobrev had a "serendipitous" reunion Sunday with former Vampire Diaries co-star Paul Wesley.

The 28-year-old actress, who played Elena Gilbert on The CW series, said in an Instagram post that she ran into Wesley, who portrayed Stefan Salvatore, in New York.

Dobrev starred as Elena in the first six seasons of The Vampire Diaries, and returned as a guest star in the Season 8 finale. She reacted to the episode, the show's last, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in March.

"I am satisfied with the way the shows ends -- the fact that Elena finds peace and becomes human, which is what she always wanted," the star said.

"She gets to be with the man that she loves, which is what she always wanted," she added, referencing Elena's marriage to Stefan's brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder). "I cried during a lot of moments."

Dobrev will star in a number of upcoming films, including Departures with Maisie Williams. Wesley, meanwhile, will appear in the TV movie Fabled with Zosia Mamet.
