Dec. 8 (UPI) -- The BBC has released a trailer for its upcoming Doctor Who holiday special, featuring a final appearance by outgoing series star Peter Capaldi. "Two Doctors, one destiny. Don't miss Twice Upon a Time, the Twelfth Doctor's last adventure, this Christmas!" said a message accompanying the preview on Facebook Friday.

The clip shows Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor meeting up with the First Doctor, who is played in the TV movie by Game of Thrones alum David Bradley. The preview ends with the declaration, "The regeneration is coming."
Capaldi has played the role of Doctor Who for three seasons. Jodie Whittaker -- the first actress to play the titular time traveler -- will take over as the character when Season 11 of the sci-fi saga begins next year.
