Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Newton the Brussels Griffon has earned the Best in Show title at the National Dog Show in Philadelphia. "He just has marvelous breed type and attitude. He just is the whole package," handler Susan DePew said after Newton's big win.
DePew and Newton are scheduled to appear on the Today show Friday morning.
Television personality John O'Hurley and expert analyst David Frei hosted Thursday's NBC broadcast of the canine competition, which aired right after the Thanksgiving Day Parade. O'Hurley and Frei have presided over the event since it began airing on the network in 2002.
This year's contest saw 2,100 dogs across 191 breeds vying for Best in Show at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia competition. Former Olympic figure skaters Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski provided color commentary as digital contributors.
Greyhound Gia was named top dog at last year's competition.
