"Exploring modern topical issues in the world of this beloved character is a thrilling endeavor, and I hope this season ignites, unites, and inspires young people around the world," creator and executive producer/show-runner Moira Walley-Beckett said in a statement.

"Canada has fallen in love with Anne all over again with this remarkable series full of beauty, humor, heartbreak and the poignant portrayal of finding a place to belong," added Sally Catto, general manager of programming at CBC.
