Nov. 22 (UPI) -- WWE Champion AJ Styles challenged Jinder Mahal to a championship rematch Tuesday on Smackdown, wanting to end their feud over the title once and for all.

Styles addressed Mahal in the middle of the ring where he placed his title on the ground and proclaimed that he was ready to fight at any moment.

Mahal, who is owed a rematch after losing the championship to Styles early in November, decided not to come to the ring and instead confronted The Phenomenal One via a live feed video that played on the big screen.

The Modern Day Maharaja mocked Styles for losing to Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series and proclaimed that he would only be invoking his rematch clause at the next Smackdown branded pay-per-view event, Clash of Champions on Dec. 17.

Mahal's henchmen, The Singh Brothers, then entered the arena and attacked Styles from behind. Despite the two-on-one advantage, Styles successfully fought off the duo before delivering a Styles Clash to Samir Singh as Mahal looked on.

Also on Smackdown Live, best friends Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were nearly fired by commissioner Shane McMahon for attacking him during his Survivor Series match against Team Raw.

General manager Daniel Bryan stepped in before he could make good on his promise and said that instead of firing Owens and Zayn, they could be punished in a Lumberjack Tag Team Match against The New Day with the entire Smackdown roster surrounding the ring. McMahon would later inform Bryan that he expected the duo to be fired following the match.

The main event was a rough one for Zayn and Owens who were attacked by the Smackdown roster on the outside of the ring for betraying the blue brand at Survivor Series. The best friends caught a break, however, after Baron Corbin accidentally punched Bobby Roode that led to huge brawl between all of the Smackdown Superstars.

The ensuing chaos then allowed Zayn to pin New Day's Kofi Kingston for the victory. After receiving some help from Rusev and Aiden English, Owens quickly escaped through the audience to avoid further beatdowns from the locker room.

Zayn, who was left in the ring, then received a Trouble in Paradise and The Midnight Hour from The New Day. Owens, after running into Bryan backstage, pleaded for his job with the general manager stating that next week he would be facing off against Randy Orton.
