Bebe Neuwirth leaves 'Madam Secretary'

Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Tony and Emmy award-winning actress Bebe Neuwirth has confirmed she will not return to the CBS drama Madam Secretary.

Neuwirth played Nadine, the chief of staff for Tea Leoni's Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord, since the show began in 2014. Her last appearance was in Sunday's third episode of Season 4 when Nadine decides to leave Washington and move to California to be closer to her family.

"So grateful for my time @MadamSecretary - a wonderful show where I love the cast, crew, background artists. #lifelongfriends," Neuwirth tweeted.

"So grateful to @CBS for accepting my request to depart @MadamSecretary and writing a beautiful exit for me. #IllmissNadine," she added.

"So grateful for everyone's support & good wishes here in Twitterland," she concluded.

The 58-year-old actress did not say what is next for her.
