Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A half-hour series based on the 1996 film First Wives Club is in the works at Paramount Network.

Screenwriter Tracy Oliver -- whose credits include Barbershop III and Girls Trip -- is attached to the project. Karen Rosenfelt, who worked on the Twilight saga and The Devil Wears Prada, will executive produce.

"The series, like the film, will be based on New York City. It will follow a group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart, and who find strength in their sisterhood -- and, of course, a little revenge," a press release noted.

The movie version starred Bette Midler, Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn. No casting has been announced yet for the small-screen re-do.

Spike is being re-branded as Parmount Network in January.
