Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Blade Runner 2049 actor Ryan Gosling was the guest host and rap icon Jay-Z provided the musical entertainment for the Season 43 premiere of Saturday Night Live this weekend.

This was Gosling's second appearance as guest host and, once again, he struggled not to laugh through his monologue and sketches, frequently hanging his head as his body shook.

He kicked off the night by insisting he saved jazz with his work in La La Land and he didn't stop boasting until Emma Stone, his Oscar-winning co-star from the movie musical, unexpectedly showed up and told him to stop.

Later, Gosling was interviewed alongside Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong after their characters survived a second alien abduction. He also played a married criminal in love with a chicken, played by Aidy Bryant; portrayed a rock 'n' roll flute player dodging personal questions during a club performance; and depicted the bitter cast member of a fraternal HGTV show called, Fliplets.
