Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Tom Hanks, Peter Dinklage, Mikey Day, Streeter Seidell and Bobby Moynihan are to star in NBC's The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special.

Inspired by a 2016 Saturday Night Live sketch starring guest host Hanks, the animated program is to air Oct. 28 at 11:30 p.m.

"Set in a small suburban town on All Hallows' Eve, the special centers on David Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks who show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way," the network said in a press release, which described the show as "family-friendly."

Bento Box Entertainment is handling the animation for the project, which Day, Seidell and Moynihan wrote and produced. SNL boss Lorne Michaels executive produced the special.

"It's scary how quickly the original SNL sketch caught on, and we're thrilled that Tom Hanks is back to keep the fun going," George Cheeks, president of business operations and late night programming for NBC Entertainment and Universal Television, said in a statement Thursday.
