Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Former Bachelor star Nick Viall says single life "kinda sucks."

The 37-year-old television personality weighed in on single life on Wednesday's episode of Ben Higgins and Ashley Ianconetti's Almost Famous podcast following his split from Season 21 winner Vanessa Grimaldi.

"I don't know if I felt like it needed to happen. But, you know, it kind of is what it is," Viall said of the breakup.

"It's never fun, right? I don't know. Being single kind of sucks," he confessed. "But what can you do? I've always been the eternal optimist of pushing forward, so yeah. I'm fine."

Viall and Grimaldi got engaged on the Season 21 finale, which aired March. The pair announced their split in a statement to E! News a bit more than five months later.

"It's with a great amount of heartbreak for the both of us as we have decided to end our engagement," the stars said. "We gave this great relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairytale ending we hoped for."

Viall told Us Weekly following the split that he won't return to the Bachelor franchise. He initially competed on Seasons 10 and 11 of The Bachelorette before starring on Bachelor in Paradise and The Bachelor.

"I'm definitely done with that," the star told the magazine. "I'm thankful for everything. I don't have regrets. I don't have any regrets. There are still a lot of positive things that came from it, especially my relationship with Vanessa."
