Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Natasha Lyonne is teaming up with Amy Poehler on an upcoming Netflix series. The 38-year-old actress confirmed Wednesday that she will star in a new comedy from Poehler and Leslye Headland.
"Very exciting developments!! Thank you @netflix @LeslyeHeadland @smrtgirls!!" she tweeted.
The untitled project was given an eight-episode straight-to-series order, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show follows a young woman (Lyonne) as she is honored at "a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York."
"So excited to get cracking with the intensely brilliant Leslye Headland, the GOAT with a heart of gold Amy Poehler, and Netflix, the safe haven I've been searching for since the '80s," the actress said. "Deeply moved to work with such heavy hitters and to share our show with the world."
Lyonne, who presently stars on the Netflix series Orange is the New Black, created the comedy with Poehler and Headland, who will serve as executive producers. Headland will pen the pilot and co-write the remaining episodes with Lyonne.
"Natasha's humor, humanity and depth have connected with audiences around the world on Orange is the New Black, Netflix vice president of original content Cindy Holland said. "With this new series, she, Leslye and Amy are creating an ambitious and uniquely formatted comedy that will have viewers guessing as much as they will be laughing."
Lyonne plays Nicky Nichols on Orange is the New Black, which is expected to return for a sixth season in 2018.
