Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Sofia Vergara and her son were all smiles at the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards. The 45-year-old actress brought Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, her 26-year-old son with ex-husband Joe Gonzalez, to the awards show Sunday in Los Angeles.

Vergara stunned on the red carpet in a white, mermaid-style Mark Zunino gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. She explained husband Joe Manganiello's absence in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
"He came as my date," she said of Manolo. "Joe is shooting in New York -- a movie -- so I'm like, 'Manolo, you wanna come?'"
Vergara's show Modern Family was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, but lost to Atlanta. The star posed for photos with her co-stars, including Sarah Hyland and Eric Stonestreet, inside the ceremony.

Vergara married Manganiello in November 2015, more than 20 years after divorcing Gonzalez, her high school sweetheart. She discussed raising Manolo as a single mom in an interview with People in April 2016.
"Every time people compliment me about my son, Manolo, it is very rewarding," the actress told the magazine.
"I was really young when I divorced his father, so I raised him trying to set the best example and give him the best that I could," she added. "When people compliment me on him, on how well mannered, how charming, funny and well-behaved he is, it makes the sacrifices worthwhile."
