Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Reese Witherspoon says she's still discussing the possibility of Big Little Lies Season 2.

The 41-year-old actress, who played Madeline Mackenzie on the HBO series, said on Wednesday's episode of Watch What Happens Live that she will return to the show if a new season proves "as good as the first."

"I don't have anything really to say," Witherspoon confessed. "We're talking about it."

"We're only going to do it if we really feel like it's as good as the first season," she explained. "We're just thinking about ideas."

Big Little Lies was initially envisioned as a one-season adaptation of Liane Moriarty's novel of the same name. Witherspoon said a new season would have to be based on new, unpublished material.

"It would just have to sort of pick up on, I guess maybe, did we get away with it?" the star said of the show's explosive finale.

"It's sort of, a lot of fun and the humor was about that we weren't all friends," she added of the characters' unified ending. "So we'd have to figure that out."

Big Little Lies co-starred Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz. Kidman also discussed the possibility of Season 2 while attending the Michael Kors show Wednesday at New York Fashion Week.

"It's still not decided because it is a lot to pull together," the 50-year-old actress told E! News. "The first one was a lot to pull together, so we are sort of not taking it lightly in terms of what it needs."
