Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Weird Science alum Ilan Mitchell-Smith will guest star on the Sept. 27 episode of the ABC sitcom The Goldbergs.

The show will pay tribute to Mitchell-Smith's 1985 sci-fi comedy, which co-starred Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey, Jr., Bill Paxton and Kelly Le Brock.

"Beverly and Murray move Erica into college where her roommate is also named Erica. Later, Beverly has a hard time letting go and ends up sleeping over in the dorm, much to Erica's dismay. Meanwhile, Adam tries to give Barry the perfect girlfriend, even trying to build one like in the movie Weird Science, as he embarks into his senior year," a synopsis said.

"Beyond thrilled I got to drag my pal @IlanMS out of retirement for our Weird Science premiere episode of @TheGoldbergsABC! WYATT LIVES!!!" show creator Adam F. Goldberg said on Twitter last month.

"Just did a very short guest spot on #TheGoldbergs & it was a blast. Thanks for having me, @adamfgoldberg! And yes, Wyatt lives, but he's old," Mitchell-Smith tweeted in reply.

The Goldbergs stars Wendi McLendon-Covey as Beverly, Patton Oswalt as adult Adam, Sean Giambrone as young Adam, Troy Gentile as Barry, Hayley Orrantia as Erica, Sam Lerner as Geoff, with George Segal as Pops and Jeff Garlin as Murray.
