Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg will return for her 10th season on ABC's daytime talk show The View, according to multiple media reports.

The decision helps settle what has been a revolving door of cast members on the female-hosted talk show since the retirement of its creator, Barbara Walters, four years ago. Aside from Walters, who hosted the first 17 seasons of The View, and another original panelist, Joy Behar, Goldberg will become the longest-serving panel member in the show's 21-year history. She will surpass former costars Meredith Vieira and Star Jones, who each did nine years on the program.

With a focus on controversy surrounding the Trump administration, The View has enjoyed its strongest ratings in three years, averaging 2.6 million viewers per episode last week. That number put it ahead of its competitor, CBS' The Talk, which has opted to shift away from much of the political drama in Washington in favor of a focus on pop culture.

The 21st season of The View is set to debut in early September.
