July 27 (UPI) -- Anderson Cooper says he's still friends with Kathy Griffin, despite her recent scandal related to President Donald Trump. The 50-year-old television personality said on Tuesday's episode of Watch What Happens Live that he hopes Griffin will "bounce back" in the wake of her controversial post about Trump. Griffin faced backlash in May after she shared an image of herself from a photo shoot holding up a fake, bloody, decapitated head that resembled Trump.

"Yeah, we're still friends," Cooper confirmed to host Andy Cohen. "I said what I said about how I didn't think what she said was appropriate, but I wish her the best and I hope she bounces back and gets back on the road."
"She's incredibly funny and a lot of people love her, and I think she'll bounce back from this," he added.
Cooper had been among those to publicly condemn the star's shoot in May.
"For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate," he tweeted May 30.
Griffin apologized in a video May 31, saying she "crossed the line" and "went way too far."
Cooper and Griffin are longtime friends and co-hosted CNN's New Year's Eve special from 2007 to 2016. Griffin was fired from the gig following the scandal, with CNN tweeting May 31, "CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year's Eve program."
