The news was announced on Twitter by series creators Samm Hodges and Michael Killen who expressed their interest in finding a new home for the show.

"They loved it creatively and really wanted to make more, but couldn't find a financial path to do so," the duo said in a joint statement. "We are deeply personally thankful for them for putting this first season on the air and allowing us to make something really unique and uncompromising."

"Obviously this is a hard moment, but we're not done," they continued. " The crazy amazing love you the fans have shown for DD combined with the critical response makes us confident that there is a future and we are committed to finding a new home."

Downward Dog starred Allison Tolman as Nan and featured a dog named Martin who would narrate and offer his perspective on Nan's life.

"To all #downwarddog fans, simply put- we wouldn't be us without you. Thanks for getting us. Bark bark," Tolman shared on Twitter.

ABC will broadcast the final two episodes of Downward Dog's first season on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
