June 8 (UPI) -- black-ish star Yara Shahidi will attend college at Harvard University.

The 17-year-old actress, who plays Zoey Johnson on the ABC sitcom, will join former first daughter Malia Obama at the Ivy League school in the fall.

Shahidi shared a photo of herself in a Harvard sweatshirt Tuesday on Instagram and quoted author James Baldwin in the caption.

"'The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.' ~James Baldwin #crimsonpride," she wrote.

Shahidi told W in March that Malia's mom, former first lady Michelle Obama, wrote her college recommendation letters. Michelle is a graduate of Harvard Law School.

"She is very amazing and such a supporter, which is something very surreal to say," the star told the magazine.

Shahidi confirmed in an interview with Seventeen in April that she will double major in African-American studies and sociology. She has yet to decide on a minor.

"I don't know if I am going to go more creative and do something in the arts or if I am going to do a social justice minor, so that is still up for debate," the actress said.

Shahidi has starred on black-ish throughout the show's three-season run. The series co-stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, and will return for a fourth season in September.
