June 1 (UPI) -- Netflix has declined to renew its sci-fi drama Sense8 for a third season.

"After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end," Cindy Holland, vice president of Netflix original content, said in a statement Thursday.

"It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kickass, and outright unforgettable," Holland said. "Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world."

Created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, and Joseph Michael Straczynski, the series follows strangers around the world who become inexplicably linked. It stars Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Freema Agyeman, Terrence Mann, Anupam Kher, Naveen Andrews and Daryl Hannah.

The streaming service also recently canceled its series The Get Down after one season.
