May 26 (UPI) -- NBC has postponed its planned, live, musical production of Bye Bye Birdie from this Christmas to the 2018 holiday.

Variety said the network moved the date largely because of its star Jennifer Lopez's busy schedule, which includes the competition series World of Dance and cop drama Shades of Blue, as well as a concert residency in Las Vegas.

Contributing to the date change is the fact NBC also scheduled Jesus Christ Superstar Live for next Easter and it might have been difficult to pull that show together just a few months after staging Bye Bye Birdie, if it had stayed on its original night.

The Hollywood Reporter said 2017 will be the first year since 2012 that NBC has been without a live musical production.

ABC recently announced it is working on a live production of The Little Mermaid, while FOX has scheduled TV events based on the theater classics Rent and A Christmas Story.
