May 12 (UPI) -- The Syfy network has ordered two new shows to series including a Superman prequel drama titled Krypton and a new project based on a book by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.
Krypton, which has been long-in-development at the cable network, is set two generations before the destruction of Superman's home planet and will star Cameron Cuffe as the Man of Steel's grandfather, according to The Wrap.
The series is being executive produced by David S. Goyer who penned 2013's Man of Steel which featured an extended sequence on Krypton and its sequel, 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) is serving as executive producer and showrunner. The cast will also include Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre and Ian McElhinney.
Martin's project is based on his book Nightflyers which takes place on the eve of Earth's destruction.
"Set in the future on the eve of Earth's destruction, a crew of explorers journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to their survival," reads the synopsis of Nightflyers.
"As the crew nears their destination, they discover that the ship's artificial intelligence and never-seen captain may be steering them into deadly and unspeakable horrors deep in the dark reaches of space," it continues.
Additionally, Syfy has ordered to series a new show HAPPY! based on a graphic novel by famed comic book writer Grant Morrison and Darick Roberston. The three new series orders are leading the way for Syfy to launch with a new logo and visual redesign to celebrate being on the air for 25 years.
