May 4 (UPI) -- Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are engaged.

An MSNBC spokeswoman confirmed the news Thursday to People after Page Six reported Scarborough, 54, proposed to Brzezinski during a trip to France for her 50th birthday.

"Joe got down on one knee and proposed old-fashioned-style with a ring," a source said. "Of course, Mika accepted. They came back from the trip on Cloud Nine."

"Mike turned 50 and realized she wanted to move forward with her life and spend every minute with Joe, and not just at work," another insider added.

Scarborough and Brzezinski later confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair that they got engaged in Cap D'Antibes in the past week. The couple were walking up to the bar in their hotel lobby when Brzezinski popped the question.

"Halfway up the hill, he said he needed to sit down. We hadn't been feeling well, so I thought, 'Oh, poor guy, he can't make it up the hill,'" Brzezinski recalled. "His glasses were fogging up he was so nervous."

"When I saw him on one knee, I started laughing nervously, almost hysterically," she confessed. "And then he asked, and I said, 'Absolutely.'"

Scarborough and Brzezinski were both married when Morning Joe premiered on MSNBC in 2007, but split from their respective spouses in 2013 and 2015. The pair appeared to confirm their romance in April after months of speculation.

"We have a crackling on-air chemistry, and a crackling off-air chemistry, too," Scarborough said in a joint interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I think that pretty much says it, doesn't it?"
