April 6 (UPI) -- Lena Dunham and the Girls cast spoofed classic sitcom The Golden Girls on Wednesday.
The spoof, which opened with The Golden Girls theme song "Thank You for Being a Friend," imagined the foursome in the year 2067. The group came together in The Golden Girls kitchen for Marnie's "63rd birthday/divorce/knee surgery" party.
"You're 77 years old. You've been married eight times and you're having knee surgery in and around your face," Kirke, as Jessa, corrected Marnie.
Girls returned for a sixth and final season on HBO in February. Dunham and her co-stars reflected on the series in an interview with executive producer Jenni Konner for the February issue of Glamour.
"I think the most satisfying part was learning to treasure collaboration," Dunham said. "When I went into the job, I had fear about letting other people into my process."
"So whether it was becoming partners with you, Jenni ... Or building my relationships with Allison and Zosia ... Or the hardest, learning to listen to Jemima ... all of that helped me learn the satisfying thing of opening up and understanding that other people's concepts of their characters, their ideas, are just as valuable as mine," she elaborated.
Girls airs Sundays on HBO.
