'Deadwood's' David Milch joins Nic Pizzolatto for 'True Detective' Season 3

March 28 (UPI) -- True Detective series creator Nic Pizzolatto is being joined by David Milch (Deadwood, NYPD Blue) for the third season of the HBO hit, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The news has not been confirmed by HBO.

Pizzolatto has written at least two episodes, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Season 1 of True Detective premiered in 2014 and starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan.

McConaughey, who played Rust Cohle, said on The Rich Eisen Show in December that he "wouldn't hesitate" to return to the HBO series if the new season "was written well."

The second season of the anthology series premiered in 2015 and starred Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn.

In August, HBO head of programming Casey Bloys talked about the possibility of a third season during the Television Critics Association press tour.

"It's not dead," Bloys said.

"We are hoping for a third season. It's a very valuable franchise for us," he continued.
