March 17 (UPI) -- Veteran broadcast journalist Gayle King is to anchor a May 22 television special called Princess Diana: Her Life -- Her Death -- Her Truth, CBS announced.
The 2-hour program will be produced by the team at 48 Hours.

"This summer, it will be 20 years since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.To mark this significant anniversary, CBS News will deliver a broadcast that looks at the impact she had on Britain, the monarchy and the world," the network said in a press release. "Princess Diana captured the hearts and imaginations of a global audience that was mesmerized by her fairytale story, one they desperately wanted to believe, but it was not to be. Many of those hearts were broken when she died on Aug. 31, 1997 in a horrific car crash in the Pont de I'Alma road tunnel in Paris."
Diana married Britain's Prince Charles, son of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1981. The glamorous young princess became a humanitarian, style icon and mother of two sons -- Princes William and Harry. She and Charles divorced in 1996.

Diana was 36 when she died of injuries she sustained as a passenger in the 1997 car crash.
