'Legion' renewed for Season 2

March 16 (UPI) -- FX's X-Men series Legion starring Dan Stevens and Aubrey Plaza has been renewed for a second season.

"The first season of Legion was a stunning achievement," said FX programming president Eric Schrier in a statement.

"More than a new series, Legion is a wholly original take on the superhero genre. Our thanks to Noah Hawley for taking the creative risks and shattering expectations," he continued.

Noah Hawley will continue to serve as creator and executive producer on Legion Season 2 that is slated to premiere in 2018, IGN reports.

Legion's eight-episode first Season is currently airing on FX Wednesday's at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
