'Underground' Season 2 to premiere on WGN America on Wednesday

March 8 (UPI) -- The American period drama Underground is to begin its 10-episode, second season on WGN America on Wednesday night.

Joining the 19th century-set show this season will be recording artist John Legend and Aisha Hinds as renowned abolitionists Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman. Legend is also an executive producer for Underground and provides music for the historical drama.

Created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, the series of hourlong episodes "follows an unremitting struggle for freedom within a divided America on the brink of civil war, each side vying to enact their own justice," press notes said.

The ensemble includes Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Marc Blucas, Jessica de Gouw, Alano Miller, Christopher Meloni and Amirah Vann.
