'Riverdale' gets a second season on The CW

March 8 (UPI) -- The CW says it has renewed its freshman series Riverdale for a second season.

The next run of episodes will air during the 2017-18 television season, Mark Pedowitz, the cable network's president, announced Tuesday.

The young-adult, mystery-drama is based on the characters from Archie Comics. It stars K.J. Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Ashleigh Murray and Madelaine Petsch.
