Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Australian actor Luke Arnold admits it hasn't been easy saying goodbye to Black Sails or John Silver, the iconic, one-legged pirate he plays on the period drama.
The Treasure Island prequel begins its fourth and final season on Starz Sunday night.
Asked by UPI at New York Comic Con how difficult it has been to let the character go, Arnold replied: "It's really, really tough.
"It's why, I think, I haven't been looking for another job yet since we finished. I'm kind of having a bit of a holiday. Physically, I'm ruined. Just hopping around on one leg has just ruined my body and it takes a while to get that out of the system," Arnold revealed in October. "And, emotionally, the journey we went on for those four years is more than I could have dreamed in any role. The fear in TV is that you'll play the same thing every week and this was the opposite of that. Episode by episode, it was almost like playing a slightly new person every time. And I am still emotionally affected by it, especially the last two episodes of Season 4... I think until I watch it and cry and drink a lot of rum, it's still going to be in me. So, I'm not ready to let go of it yet is the truth. And, that said, as well, I couldn't imagine doing a fifth season next year because we really end the journey that we started four years ago."
So, would he consider re-visiting the character a few years down the line?
"Absolutely!" Arnold emphasized. "I feel like word of mouth about the show is still going out. It seems like every day, more and more people are discovering it, so, if, in like, five to 10 years, there is that demand... I think that's what it needs to be. I think the next version of the story needs to be closer to Treasure Island. It needs to be down the track."
