Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Nina Dobrev is officially returning for The Vampire Diaries finale.
The 28-year-old actress confirmed Thursday on Instagram that she'll reprise Elena Gilbert on the show's final episode after leaving The CW series in 2015.
"I know it's Thursday, but this is not a TBT. #BackOnSet #TVDForever," she captioned a photo of her script for her 11.1 million followers.
Dobrev's post reveals the Season 8 finale will be titled "I Was Feeling Epic." Series creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson wrote the episode, with Plec to also direct.
"I am thrilled to bring this show to an end the way we always intended -- with Nina back to help us say goodbye," Plec said in a statement.
"I'm so excited to have Nina back to ensure our farewell episode is truly epic!" Williamson added.
Dobrev last appeared on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 finale. She explained her decision to leave the show in a post in April 2015, saying she "always knew [she] wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure."
"Within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," the star wrote. "I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be a human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger."
"Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever," she added.
Dobrev has since appeared in the film The Final Girls, and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage with Vin Diesel. She is slated for the movie Crash Pad with Domhnall Gleeson and Flatliners with Diego Luna.
