LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Special agent Tony Almeida is back in the second trailer for Fox's upcoming 24 revival series, 24: Legacy.

The clip, released Wednesday, features actor Carlos Bernard back as a bearded Almeida, who is currently in prison.

The fan-favorite 24 character will be free soon however as his special agent status is reactivated by new character Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto), a former National Director of CTU.

"It felt right that he was the one person who comes back," executive producer Manny Coto explained to TV Line about Almeida returning ahead of other classic 24 characters while presenting Legacy at the Television Critics Association press tour.

"Once we decided to bring Tony back, with only 12 episodes, to bring other [veteran] characters back as well throws the balance off," added executive producer Evan Katz. "We want viewers to build relationships with these [new] people and not think about the past."

The trailer also details new protagonist Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) as he races against the clock to save the United States from a terrorist threat in place of franchise star Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland.)

"Together in this fast-paced thrill ride, Carter and Ingram uncover a sophisticated terrorist network that will force them to ask: "Who can we trust?" reads the synopsis that also notes how the new characters will confront "their own identities, families and pasts."

24: Legacy is set to premiere on Fox starting Sunday, Feb.5 following Super Bowl LI and then continue on Monday, Feb. 6.
