LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Popular musical drama Empire was renewed Wednesday for Season 4.
The Fox series confirmed as much on its official Twitter page after Fox Television Group CEO Gary Newman announced the news at the TCA Winter Press Tour.
"Show your Lyon pride! RETWEET if you're excited that #Empire has been renewed for Season 4," the show encouraged fans.
Newman and Fox entertainment president David Madden said Season 4 will consist of 18 episodes, according to Variety. The new season will premiere during the 2017-2018 television season.
Empire is in the midst of its third season and will return from mid-season break Mar. 22. The drama follows a music mogul (Terrence Howard) as he contends with his ex-wife (Taraji P. Henson) and three sons (Bryshere Y. Gray, Trai Byers, Jussie Smollett).
Empire and its cast have won several awards, including a 2016 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama for Henson. The series was co-created by Lee Daniels and Daniel Strong.
