Tracee Ellis Ross wins Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series at Golden Globes

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Tracee Ellis Ross won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series for Black-ish. The actress, who was up against Rachel Bloom in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Veep, Sarah Jessica Parker in Divorce, Issa Rae in Insecure and Gina Rodriguez in Jane the Virgin.

The actress, who wore a sparkly and sheer strapless dress said, "This is for all of the women of color whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy or important but I see you and we see you."

Ross is the first black woman to win the award since Debbie Allen won for her role in Fame in 1982. Allen tweeted: "Congrats Issa & Tracee on well-deserved @goldenglobes nominations! Win-win either way! #tbt last time a black woman won this category ;)"

Other winners include Atlanta for Best TV Series -- Comedy or Musical, Aaron Taylor-Johnson for Best Supporting Actor in Nocturnal Animals, Billy Bob Thornton for Goliath and Sarah Paulson for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress in The People Vs OJ Simpson.
