'Sleepy Hollow' Season 4: Crane gets a new team in D.C. [SPOILER ALERT!]

NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Dashing, demon hunter Ichabod Crane found himself battling evil in Washington, D.C., instead of his TV show's titular New York hamlet in the Season 4 premiere of Fox's Sleepy Hollow.

After his longtime partner Abbie Mills [played by Nicole Beharie] died in the Season 3 finale, Crane [played by Thomas Mison] is scooped up by mystery agents and transported to the nation's capitol.

Interrogated for days, but given no clear reason as to why he is being held, he eventually escapes. Sensing trouble at the Lincoln Memorial, he runs into, then saves the life of Homeland Security agent Diana [played by Janina Gavankar] as they are both chasing a malevolent creature, which kills Diana's partner.

Crane quickly introduces himself as a historical consultant and convinces Diana he is a trustworthy ally. The two team up and eventually enlist the help of enthusiastic, young government agents Alex and Jake [played by Rachel Melvin and Jerry MacKinnon,] who are the keepers of the country's secret, supernatural archives.

The episode also features the introduction of the sinister, billionaire tech mogul Malcolm Dreyfuss [played by Jeremy Davies,] as well as the return of Crane's close friend -- and Abbie's resourceful, butt-kicking sister -- Jenny [played by Lyndie Greenwood,] who shows up just in the nick of time to slay the demon that has been plaguing Crane and Diana.

The season premiere ended with a glimpse of Diana's 10-year-old daughter Molly [played by Oona Yaffe,] who recently became non-verbal and -- unbeknownst to Diana -- has been sketching portraits of Crane, a man she has presumably never met, suggesting she could possibly be the new witness/partner who will help Crane save the world in Abbie's absence.

Loosely inspired by the classic story by Washington Irving, Sleepy Hollow follows Crane, an 18th-century scholar and spy for General George Washington, who wakes up in a contemporary New York suburb that happens to be a flashpoint for magical activity.
