LOS ANGELES, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Rider Strong says Girl Meets World will come to a close after Season 3.

The 37-year-old actor, who plays Shawn Hunter on the Disney Channel series, recently suggested on his Literary Disco podcast that the sitcom will end after the current season.

"We finished the third season of Girl Meets World," he revealed. "My brother and I were directing a lot of episodes and I acted in a couple. And the show ended."

Sources told Deadline that Disney Channel has yet to notify the cast and crew, but that no renewal is expected. The Season 3 finale will reportedly be the final episode, and feature a reunion with Strong, Ben Savage, William Daniels and other cast members.

The Girl Meets World Writers Room Twitter account responded Thursday to Strong's comments. The writers admitted the show ending is a possibility, but jokingly reminded fans that the actor's character "was wrong a lot."

"There is no official word as yet. Disney decision on season 4 coming soon. Officially, season 3 ends with 3 wonderful episodes in January," the writers tweeted.

"Whatever happens, it has been a great joy to get to continue this story. If it is over, thank you. If not, we will keep giving our best," they added.

Girl Meets World is a sequel/spinoff series to Boy Meets World, which had a seven-season run on ABC from 1993 to 2000. The sitcom focuses on Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), the daughter of Cory Matthews (Savage) and Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel).
