NEW YORK, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Comedian Dave Chappelle addressed Republican Donald Trump's election as U.S. president when he guest hosted this weekend's edition of Saturday Night Live.

Chappelle discussed Trump's surprise win in his monologue and also appeared in a sketch where he and Chris Rock mocked their shocked, white friends as the election results rolled in.

"I didn't know that Donald Trump was going to win the election. I did suspect it. Seemed like Hillary [Clinton] was doing well in the polls and, yet, I know the whites," Chappelle said with a laugh as he took the SNL stage for the first time.

"You guys aren't as full of surprises as you used to be and I think I speak for all of black America when I say that we are all praying for Omarosa," he continued. "But America's done it. We've actually elected an Internet troll as our president. ... I don't know what he's going to do, but [President Barack] Obama did a good job. Obama did a good job. I think we'll all miss him when he's gone."

Chappelle went on to recount how he recently attended a party sponsored by BET at the White House and attended by a primarily African American crowd.

"I saw how happy everybody was. These people who had been historically disenfranchised and it made me feel hopeful and it made me feel proud to be an American," he explained. "And it made me very happy about the prospects of our country. So, in that spirit, I'm wishing Donald Trump luck and I'm going to give him a chance and we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one, too."

SNL cast member Kate McKinnon, who impersonates Hillary Clinton for the show, opened the episode with an emotional tribute to the late Leonard Cohen and to the character she has played through the campaign.
