Marvel and Netflix's next series 'Iron Fist' receives official release date

LOS GATOS, Calif., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Netflix and Marvel's next superhero drama Iron Fist has received an official release date.

It was announced Tuesday on Twitter alongside a teaser video that features smoke rising from a small cup that Iron Fist is set to debut on Netflix starting March 17, 2017.

"Breathe deep. #IronFist," the streaming service captioned the clip.

Netflix also shared on Twitter an on-set photo of star Finn Jones jumping in the air to punch out an unknown assailant. "Open heart. Closed fist," they wrote alongside the image.

Iron Fist is the fourth collaboration between Netflix and Marvel following Daredevil, Jessica Jones and the recently released Luke Cage. Iron Fist will be premiering ahead of the planned Defenders crossover which will bring all four heroes into one series.

A series based on The Punisher is also in development.

The show will focus on martial arts master Daniel Rand (Jones), as he returns home to New York City after a long journey. Rand utilizes the mystical power of the Iron Fist to enhance his abilities to superhuman levels in order to fight crime.

Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey and Jessica Henwick are also set to star.
