NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The hip-hop infused soundtrack of Netflix's upcoming superhero drama Luke Cage is explored in a new mini-documentary.

The clip, released Wednesday, features star Mike Colter along with showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, members of the show's music supervision department which includes Adrian Younge of A Tribe Called Quest and rappers Method Man and A$AP Ferg.

The hip-hop collective discuss how the soundtrack gives Luke Cage a "street-level authenticity and cultural relevance," and how each episode "is shaped by its score and musical influence."

"Marvel has always had its finger on the pulse of pop culture and this right here is just taking it even further," Method Man says in the video.

After revealing that each episode of Season 1 is named after a song by influential hip-hop group Gang Starr, Coker discusses how the speed of the hip-hop soundtrack correlates with how Luke Cage fights crime on the streets of Harlem.

"One of the things that I was explaining was the speed of hip-hop," Coker says. "It happens at the speed of thought, so if you really ran into Luke and then all of a sudden 'boom,' there's going to be a beat. That's all it takes."

Luke Cage which also stars Theo Rossi, Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, Erik LaRay Harvey, Frank Whaley, Simone Missick and Rosario Dawson, is set to premiere on Netflix starting Sept. 30.

Colter is also expected to star as the character in Netflix's planned Defenders series which will bring together its various Marvel heroes including Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist.
