NEW YORK, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Rami Malek is officially on Instagram, thanks to Stephen Colbert.

The 35-year-old actor posted a first-ever photo on the social media site at Colbert's urging while appearing on Wednesday's episode of The Late Show.

"I'm not crazy about social media," Malek explained prior. "I think it's a little bit polarizing. It's difficult to figure out what exactly is happening on social media, you know? Things seem very manicured. I think it pits people against each other."

"I had no idea I had that many followers," he admitted after Colbert showed him his 95,000 followers on his empty account. "That's crazy."

Colbert then helped Malek "feed the beast" by breaking out his selfie stick and snapping a picture with the Mr. Robot star. The actor has since gained an additional 20,000 followers, bringing him to 115,000.

"The day @colbertlateshow hacked my Instagram," he captioned the photo.

Malek, who plays computer hacker Elliot Alderson on Mr. Robot, admitted in the interview that he's not nearly as tech-savvy as his character. The USA Network series was renewed for a third season last week.

"We couldn't be more proud of Mr. Robot," NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment networks president Chris McCumber said at the time. "We can't wait to see where [series creator] Sam Esmail and the entire brilliant Robot team take us next."
