'L.A. Law' reboot being developed by co-creator Steven Bochco

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Hit legal drama L.A. Law may return to television in a rebooted series helmed by original co-creator Steven Bochco.

"Over the years we've been asked to redo L.A. Law, but I've always said, 'No, I'm not interested,'" Bochco said Monday while appearing on The Rich Eisen Show.

As the 10-time Emmy winner explained, however, it was a pitch from original series writer William Finkelstein that made him interested in a reboot.

"He pushed back and said the kind of law that's relevant in 2016 didn't even exist in 1986; it was 30 years ago," he said."And he's right; there are so many interesting legal aspects to our society today that just simply weren't in play then. And the more I thought about it, the more I thought, well that is kind of interesting."

Bochco who also created hit television series' Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue, also detailed how networks are already intreated in a L.A. Law revival. "We went over and had a conversation with Fox, and they were very enthusiastic about doing it, so we are developing it," he shared.

The show which ran from 1986-1994 on NBC, won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series four times and starred an ensemble cast that included Richard Dysart, Alan Rachins, Corbin Bernsen, Susan Dey, Jimmy Smits, Blair Underwood and Larry Drake who died at the age of 66 back in March.

Members of the original cast may return according to Bochco as he aims to finish a script by October.
