LONDON, June 14 (UPI) -- Matt Lucas is returning to BBC series Doctor Who.
The 42-year-old English actor, who played Nardole in the Season 9 Christmas special, will appear in Season 10 with Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie, the network announced Tuesday.
"Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS -- and this time it's not just for Christmas, he's sticking around," executive producer Steven Moffat said. "One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space."
Lucas and his co-stars will appear in the Season 10 Christmas special in December before Season 10 premieres in 2017. The opening episode will begin filming June 20 in Cardiff, Wales.
"I'm chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I'm excited to work with Pearl," the actor said. He later added, "I hope my doggies like Cardiff," with a smiley face emoji on Twitter.
Season 10 will mark Capaldi's third starring season as the Twelfth Doctor and Mackie's first as the Doctor's companion Bill. Capaldi hinted Jenna Coleman may reprise the Doctor's previous companion, Clara Oswald, at a fan convention this month.
"I just shot something that Clara was still there in," the 58-year-old actor revealed. "You will have to wait and see."
Lucas is best known for creating the sketch comedy series Little Britain with David Walliams. He also played Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Alice in Wonderland and its sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass.
