AUSTIN, Texas, June 13 (UPI) -- Several Ugly Betty stars reunited to celebrate the ABC series over the weekend.
America Ferrera, Ana Ortiz, Vanessa Williams, Michael Urie, Tony Plana, Eric Mabius, Mark Indelicato, Rebecca Romijn, Ashley Jensen and Judith Light attended the ATX Television Festival with showrunner Silvio Horta on Saturday.
The reunion took place more than six years after Ugly Betty came to a close after a four-season run. Ferrera, who played the title character, Betty Suarez, admitted to feeling depressed following the show's finale in 2010.
"I went into a deep depression because it was like losing a family," the 32-year-old actress told the audience. "There's still a piece of me that doesn't want to let Betty go."
Ferrera's love for the series and her castmates inspired her to suggest a reunion special during the panel. The actress jokingly proposed a two-hour Hulu special but later encouraged fans to show their support for the project.
"Everybody here take out your phone. Hashtag: Betty Reboot. We need a hashtag and tweet it out and then we're going to get Hulu to buy a two-hour special," she said.
"Here's the only thing I know for sure -- if we were to do something, it would be a dream, but everybody on this stage would have to be involved. And Becki Newton," Horta added. Newton, who played Amanda Tanen, was too ill to attend the festival.
Ferrera's portrayal of Betty earned her a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in 2007. The actress presently plays Amy Dubanowski on the NBC sitcom Superstore, which was renewed for a second season in February.
