"Rob Lowe is handsome, talented, successful and handsome. He needs to be roasted," Kent Alterman, president of Comedy Central, said in a statement Thursday.

"What a thrill to once again be following in Justin Bieber's footsteps," Lowe added. "I look forward to a night of hilarious jokes recycled from the James Franco roast. I would like to express my gratitude to the members of my family who have passed away and therefore will not have to endure what promises to be a very special evening."

Lowe's television credits include The Grinder, Parks and Recreation, Brothers and Sisters, and The West Wing. The 52-year-old actor is also known for his roles in the films About Last Night, St. Elmo's Fire, Wayne's World and The Outsiders.

Other past Comedy Central roastees have been Donald Trump, Roseanne, Charlie Sheen and Hugh Hefner.
