NEW YORK, June 4 (UPI) -- ABC executives have decided not to renew comedian Michelle Collins' contract for the 2016-17 season of The View.

Collins was asked to permanently join the multi-host panel last summer after a lengthy trial period, but Variety reported network bosses have not been happy with her performance and don't plan to ask her back for Season 20.

The Hollywood Reporter noted Collins was reduced to one or two appearances per week shortly after she was hired full-time.

Both entertainment industry trade newspapers said Collins will remain on The View through the end of the summer.

"Michelle is smart, opinionated and funny," an ABC representative said. "She's been a great addition to the panel this year. When we are ready to make an announcement about next season, we will."

This season's panel includes Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron-Bure, Raven-Symone and Paula Prentiss.
