NASHVILLE, May 27 (UPI) -- Jamie Lynn Spears returns to the spotlight in a promo for her TLC special, Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Down.

The preview sees the 25-year-old singer explore her future in music after taking several years off to parent her daughter, Maddie. Spears was just 16 when she learned she was pregnant in 2007.

"At 16, I was pregnant and I was going to become a mother," the former Nickelodeon star recounted in the trailer. "The child star who got pregnant. A lot of horrible, nasty things were said."

"I was a child then. I needed to go grow up outside of the world's view," she explained of her retreat from the public eye. "This is my story like you've never heard before."

When the Lights Go Down follows Spears as she prepares her comeback at the Grand Ole Opry. The singer received a surprise introduction from sister Britney Spears when she performed at the iconic venue for the first time in March.

"I'm not just a child star. And I'm not just someone's sister. And I'm not just a teen mom," she asserted in the promo. "For the first time, this is the real story. My past and everything, it all leads to this moment."
