"We are picked up. Thank you @CBS. Congrats to the entire #Doubt family. Yay!" Cox tweeted in celebration.

Doubt will be the first broadcast network series to feature a transgender actor playing a transgender series regular character. The legal drama co-stars Katherine Heigl, Steven Pasquale and Dulé Hill.

The series also marks Heigl's return to television after the short-lived NBC drama State of Affairs. The 37-year-old actress will portray "a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer" who starts to fall for a "charismatic" but potentially guilty client.

Cox is best known for playing Sophia Burset, a transgender character, on the Netflix series Orange is the New Black. The actress hosted the 2016 GLAAD Media Awards, which recognize representations of the LGBT community in the media, on Saturday.

What a night! Thank you #glaadawards. Thank you everyone. Celebrating #LGBT #visibility and #equality #TransIsBeautiful," she tweeted of the event.

Cox will also star as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Fox's television remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. She is also slated for an adaptation of the James St. James novel Freak Show, which follows a teenage drag queen who runs for homecoming queen.
