LOS ANGELES, May 13 (UPI) -- Empire star Jussie Smollett has taken to social media to discuss his future on the hit drama following Wednesday's shocking, cliffhanger episode.

Smollett's character Jamal Lyon was last seen on Empire taking a bullet meant for his father Lucious (Terrence Howard), before being rushed into a hospital for surgery.

Smollett's tweet would indicate that Jamal doesn't make it however, a new report from Entertainment Weekly states that the 32-year-old is not leaving the show and still remains under contract with Fox. Jamal has been featured on Empire since its debut season in 2015 as the gay son of Lucious and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) who pursues a career in music.

Jamal's fate will seemingly be revealed when Empire's Season 2 finale airs Wednesday, May 18 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
